Where Can I Find Student Career Advice | Business @ redbright.co.za

There?s a wealth of options available for those leaving school or university looking to move onto a new career, and even more resources helping guide you in the right direction as far as careers advice goes. It?s always your call, but a little bit of reading will do you no harm at all, and perhaps open new doors in career advice you weren?t aware of.

The government, though, have cut funding for career advice for young people and school leavers by 100 million. This, unfortunately, makes the job market look even more competitive than ever before. Established career advice services like Connexions are a thing of the past, but if you?re prepared to do a little digging around, you?ll find there are still plenty of options available.

Once you?ve decided which industry you want to work in, you could, perhaps, look into companies and organisations within that industry ? and there?s no harm in that: being proactive like this is a sure way to impress potential employers. While you?re doing your research, you?ll find out what qualifications you need, what kind of salary you can expect and what kind of apprenticeship schemes or internships are on offer. If you?re planning to go down the apprenticeship route, you should look into the National Apprenticeship Service first.

If you?re planning for when you graduate university, you would be wise not to overlook Prospects, a government-funded resource into the best available jobs and advice for those looking to establish their career with their recently obtained degrees. For everyone else, try Nextstep, which focuses on practical advice, policy changes and even material such as CV writing tips in a very straight-forward manner.

Independent, but an invaluable student career advice resource would be Guardian Careers, who offer a large number of available jobs for university leavers and otherwise, as well as niche advice and great columnists. In the midst of university, or on planning to attend, you?ll find a lively and helpful student career advice community over at The Student Rooms website as well as a relevant news feed and features that might be of relevance to you.

If you?re looking for apprenticeships in London you can find information about them and other apprenticeships in the UK that are possible at Notgoingtouni.co.uk. You?ll also find more information and advice about foundation degrees, gap years, voluntary work and sponsored degrees, as well as more than 300 distance learning videos.

Primary Results For Michigan, Arizona: Winners & Losers (PHOTOS)

Republican presidential hopefuls competed in two primaries in Arizona and Michigan Tuesday, just a week ahead of what could be a decisive Super Tuesday.

With former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holding a commanding lead in the Arizona polls going into Tuesday, all eyes were on the hotly contested race in Michigan, where Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum entered primary day in a dead heat.

With former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul relegated to the background, Santorum and Romney mostly attacked one another, culminating in Romney accusing the former Pennsylvania senator of playing a "dirty trick" by telling Democrats to vote for him.

Romney eventually proved victorious in the Wolverine State, as well as in Arizona.

However, the actual importance of the Michigan primary is debatable. When state officials made the decision to move up the primary to February, against party rules, the state was penalized and left with just 30 delegates to award, as opposed to its usual 59, leading some to bemoan the media's hype of the contest.

Others argue, however, that Tuesday's real prize is not Michigan or Arizona's delegates, but momentum. With 10 states up for grabs on Super Tuesday, the next week of campaigning could be crucial for the candidates.

Below is a look at the biggest winners and losers from the Michigan and Arizona primaries.

WINNER: Mitt Romney

1? of ?7

Despite fears that Mitt Romney would lose in his home state, the former governor proved victorious in the very close Michigan primary, as well as the less competitive Arizona contest. With these two contests in his pocket, Romney can now focus his attention on Super Tuesday, when a total of 419 delegates will be awarded. Those 10 contests could prove to be decisive for Romney -- if he does well, he could avoid rumblings of a brokered convention from GOP operatives who have doubted his ability to perform in the general election.

Cairo court adjourns trial of NGO workers

An Egyptian court on Sunday adjourned the trial of 16 Americans and 27 others who for pro-democracy groups until April? 26.

Thirteen Egyptian defendants were in court for the opening hearing. They were held in a metal cage, as is customary in Egyptian trials.

Of the 16 Americans charged in the case, seven have been banned from leaving Egypt. They were not in court Sunday.

The NGO workers have been charged with operating without a license and using illegal foreign funds to foment unrest.

Hundreds of lawyers and reporters crammed into a chaotic Cairo courtroom as the trial of those who work for pro-democracy groups opened in the Egyptian capital.

The case has severely strained Cairo's relations with Washington, and U.S. officials have threatened to cut off $1.5 billion in aid to Egypt if the dispute is not resolved.

US presses Egypt to find deal for 16 Americans

The NGO workers have been charged with operating without a license and using illegal foreign funds to foment unrest.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who arrived in the Moroccan capital after visits to Algeria and Tunisia, has met Egypt's foreign minister Mohamed Kamel Amr twice in the last three days, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Retaliation?
Rights campaigners say the case is retaliation by Egypt's ruling generals against pro-democracy groups that have been among the army's harshest critics since it took power when Hosni Mubarak was overthrown a year ago.

"The whole basis of this case is unfair," an Egyptian activist working for one of the organizations told Reuters.

The U.S. pro-democracy groups whose staff have been charged deny they have done anything illegal. They say the crackdown is an attempt by Egypt's military rulers to derail democracy.

Egypt says the case is a judicial matter and all groups must heed Egyptian law.

Negad al-Borai, a lawyer representing the accused in Cairo, said the charges referred only to a short period in the groups' activities and could therefore be argued against.

"The charges made involve only the period from March 2011 to December 2011," he told Reuters. "These groups have applied for permits before that period."

Some Egyptian officials have linked the funding of civil society initiatives to a U.S. plot to undermine Egypt's sovereignty ? accusations the United States and the civil society workers deny.

Among those accused is Sam LaHood, Egypt director of the International Republican Institute and the son of the U.S. transportation secretary.

The crisis escalated on Dec. 29 when Egyptian authority swooped the offices of American groups International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute, confiscating documents and computers and cash on the premises.

The government and the ruling military council say the case was initiated by the judiciary and is out of their hands.

Watson leads Australia past India into final

Shane Watson made a triumphant return by captaining Australia to an emphatic 87-run victory over India on Sunday and ensuring the hosts a place in the final of the one-day international Tri-series.

Watson, who last played for his country in South Africa last November before being sidelined by injury, stood in for injured skipper Michael Clarke and took two wickets for nine runs as his team bowled out India for 165 in reply to Australia's 252 for nine.

India now need a bonus-point victory over Sri Lanka in Hobart on Tuesday and must rely on Australia beating their sub-continental rivals in Melbourne on Friday to have any hope of progressing to the best of three match final.

After Watson's batting return had ended with just a single run, David Warner scored his first half century of the year in limited overs cricket, wicketkeeper Matt Wade hit 56 and David Hussey a controversial 54 to fire the Australian innings.

Hussey was on 17 and running for a single when he put out his hand to block fielder Suresh Raina's throw to the stumps.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni appealed for an "obstructing the field" dismissal but umpire Billy Bowden turned him down after a long consultation with the third umpire, deciding that the batsman was protecting himself from injury.

Warner was despatched by left-armer Ravindra Jadeja for 68 but even in taking his wicket India suffered, Raina taking a superb catch but clattering into Irfan Pathan as he did so and leaving his team mate only able to bowl five overs.

Dhoni, who once again had to deny rumours of rifts in his squad this week, allowed Virender Sehwag nine overs with the ball and was rewarded with three wickets for 43 from the veteran as the Indians slowed the Australians run rate in the last 10 overs of their innings.

Sachin Tendulkar was cheered onto the field by the 33,639 crowd as he marched out to open the Indian innings and continue his quest for his 100th international century.

The batting maestro had made just 14 runs, however, when he was run out, waving his arms in frustration at Brett Lee who had unintentionally blocked his path to the crease.

By that stage Sehwag had already departed for five and when Virat Kohli (21) and Gautam Gambhir (23) were dismissed in successive overs, India were struggling at 83 for four.

Watson, who had Kohli caught by Dan Christian at midwicket in his first full over, then removed Raina caught behind for eight to drive home the advantage.

Dhoni, returning after a one-match ban for India's slow over rate, battled for 49 balls to give his country a captain's innings but when he was trapped lbw by Ben Hilfenhaus he had just 14 runs on the board.

The end game was afoot and although Irfan (22) and Ravi Ashwin (26) wagged the tail a bit, the large Indian contingent in the crowd had long gone quiet when Xavier Doherty bowled Praveen Kumar to end another miserable night in Australia for their team.

Taylor Swift Invites New Jersey Teen To ACM Awards

Country superstar declines Kevin McGuire's prom invitation on Facebook — but she has a better idea.

Taylor Swift has asked a fan to be her date to an awards show, and it all started on Facebook.

Less than 24 hours after the sister of a leukemia-stricken New Jersey teen made a plea to the country star in an online video, Swift responded via her official Facebook page.

"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," she wrote. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up... Would you be my date?"

Swift's camp confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook post is legit.

Kevin McGuire, an 18-year-old high school football star, has his sister to thank for the invitation. Looking for ways to support her brother as he underwent treatment for a relapse of the disease he was diagnosed with five years ago, Tori McGuire set up the "Taylor Swift Take Kevin McGuire to Prom!" Facebook page, which had nearly 100,000 followers at press time. The Twitter hashtag #TeamKevin had gotten the attention of a number of celebrities, including Perez Hilton, Travie McCoy, Michael Vick and Troy Aikman.

"All throughout Kevin's treatment he kept his character intact, remained playing basketball, and even started varsity football as a freshman," she wrote on the Facebook page. "Kevin is known throughout the community as the High school's 'real life SUPER MAN!' Tragically, Kevin had a relapse, and is now fighting cancer for the second time. Kevin is the kindest, most noble 18 year old a person could even fathom meeting, and throughout his ups and downs Kevin never even questioned 'why me?' Nothing, and I mean NOTHING brightens Kevin's day more than Taylor Swift. Kevin DESERVES more than anyone a special event in his life."

Comments quickly flooded Swift's post and new remarks appeared on McGuire's Facebook page as well.

"Congrats! The ACMs are way better than the prom!" wrote Connie Spross, a supporter.

The 47th annual Academy of Country Music Awards are scheduled to take place Sunday, April 1, in Nashville. Swift is nominated for several awards, including Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Video of the Year.

What do you think of Taylor's response to Kevin? Let us know in the comments!

Design team creates electric skateboard controlled by brain waves (Digital Trends)

[unable to retrieve full-text content]Digital Trends - Built by the same development group that created the Kinect-controlled Board of Awesomeness, the research division of Chaotic Moon Studios has announced the Board of Imagination. While wearing a wireless neuro-headset designed by Emotiv, the rider on the electric skateboard simply visualizes a point off in the distance and think about how fast they want to travel in order to reach that point. The signal from the brain is ???translated??? by the headset and communicated to a Samsung, Windows 8-enabled tablet via a USB connector. The software on the tablet interacts with the all-terrain skateboard and sends the rider flying down the road up to 32 miles per hour. In order to stop the board, the rider thinks about the upcoming point of arrival.

Study: Candidates' plans lead to huge deficits

(AP) ? Huge tax cuts in the budget plans of Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum would produce the kinds of trillion-dollar-plus deficits that the GOP candidates are blaming on President Barack Obama.

That's the finding by the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a Washington-based budget watchdog group.

The study also says the more modest tax and spending plans of Mitt Romney wouldn't make a dent in deficits that are on track to average $800 billion or so a year over the coming decade under current trends and policies ? and could add to them considerably.

Only Ron Paul, who calls for wrenching budget cuts that dwarf anything proposed by his three rivals, would reduce the flow of red ink. But even Paul's plan would leave in place a deficit in the $500 billion range by the end of his first term.

The candidates' budget plans provide a sharp contrast with those of President Barack Obama, who released his latest fiscal blueprint just last week. Like Obama, the GOP candidates have the luxury of suspending political reality and assuming lawmakers would quickly enact their ideas into law.

That translates into a tax code in which taxes on investments and capital gains are sharply reduced or eliminated. Each Republican candidate would eliminate inheritance taxes on large estates. And tax rates on individuals would be cut as well ? all in the face of deficits that economists say would eventually cripple the economy.

The results, according to the study, would be higher deficits, except in the case of Paul, whose proposed cuts to the military and other programs make even tea partyers blanche.

According to the study, Gingrich's plan would add $7 trillion to the nation's debt over the coming nine years ? almost doubling the deficits that would be recorded if the government basically ran on autopilot. Santorum's plan would add $4.5 trillion over the period, or about $500 billion to the deficit every year on average.

By contrast, Romney's proposal would add $250 billion to the deficit over nine years, though that estimate was generated before he unveiled a new tax plan this week that could add considerably to the deficit.

By the end of fiscal 2016, little more than a month before Election Day, Gingrich's plan would produce a deficit of 7.8 percent of the economy, or almost $1.5 trillion. Santorum's blueprint would produce a deficit in the $1.2 trillion range, or 6.5 percent of gross domestic product, or GDP. And Romney's plan ? given the benefit of the doubt since his new tax plan is so vague ? would generate a 2016 deficit of $700 billion to $800 billion or so.

Obama's budget claims a $649 billion deficit by 2016, relying on tax increases to do it.

The group didn't publish specific deficit figures for 2016 but provided estimates of them as a percentage of GDP to The Associated Press, which calculated them based on the GDP estimates of the Congressional Budget Office.

Paul's budget plans include eliminating five Cabinet departments, immediately ending operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, and sharply cutting federal programs like Medicaid and food stamps. It would reduce the deficit by $2.2 trillion over nine years. He is the only candidate whose spending cuts exceed the amount of revenue lost by cutting taxes.

The four GOP candidates vying to replace Obama each promise sweeping tax cuts, even as the deficit under current policies would never fall below $600 billion over the coming decade.

Gingrich, for example, would give taxpayers the option of a 15 percent flat tax rate, while Santorum promises to reduce the current five-bracket system to two, with rates of 28 percent and 10 percent. Each idea would mean trillions of dollars less in revenue for the government.

Romney's latest tax plan would cut the top income tax rate from 35 percent to 28 percent and the other rates by 20 percent each, paid for by broadening the tax base and eliminating numerous deductions. But the plan lacks sufficient specifics to be estimated with any precision.

The candidates' ambitious budget plans contrast with GOP leaders in Congress, who have focused on retaining the full menu of Bush-era tax cuts rather than attempting to cut taxes further ? and have opened the door to higher tax revenues as part of a comprehensive deficit-cutting deal.

Last week, Obama proposed tax increases of almost $2 trillion over the coming decade ? chiefly by ending Bush-era cuts on individual income exceeding $200,000 a year and family income exceeding $250,000.

The budget group's advisers include many Democratic deficit hawks and Republicans unafraid to advocate for higher taxes. The group acknowledged plenty of wiggle room in the study since many of the candidates' proposals are vague or haven't been reviewed by official sources, like the CBO.

The Tax Policy Center, a respected joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, provided the basis for many of the estimates of the candidates' tax proposals.

The group offers three scenarios for each candidate, which incorporated different assumptions that depend on how vague or specific a candidate's proposals are. The group chiefly trumpeted an "intermediate" scenario that represented the group's best estimate of the candidate's budget plans.

By contrast, the Gingrich campaign on Thursday produced an estimate by a friendly economist that predicts his budget would balance by the end of his first term and that economic growth under his supply-side tax cuts would average 4.4 percent a year over the coming decade, far higher than predicted by the budget group.

Bobby Brown to Pen Whitney Houston Tell-All?!?

Bobby Brown, this may be your prerogative, but it's a really bad idea.

According to sources in the publishing world, the singer was planning to pen a memoir about Whitney Houston a few years ago, but interest "wasn't that great" at the time. Now, however?

"The market has changed," this insider tells The Huffington Post. "Now is the time for a book that details an honest look into the life of Whitney."

Bobby Brown Performance Pic

But there's no way Brown would exploit Whitney's death, right? Not when daughter Bobbi Kristina is suffering through such a tragic downward spiral, right?

"This is a man who left his ex-wife's funeral because he didn't like his seats and went to a paying gig that night," a friend of Whitney tells the site. "He didn't get on stage that night because he needed to sing his greatest hits or because Whitney would have wanted him to entertain his fans, he did it to get a paycheck - the same reason he now wants to write a tell-all book."

Sadly, that's a very good point.

Million Dollar Homes in Sacramento | Sacramento Real Estate ...

Last week I had the privilege of touring a million dollar estate during a listing interview in Carmichael. ?While preparing for this listing interview, I found only 13 homes in all of Sacramento County that sold over a million dollars within a 6 month period. ?This shows there are not very many million dollar home buyers which tends to either reduce the sold prices of million dollar homes or simply have these estates withdraw their home for sale from the real estate market all together. ?With that said, there were 118 million dollar homes that withdrew their listings from MLS.

Forty million dollar homes are currently for sale in all of Sacramento County and only four luxury homes over a million dollars in pending sale within the entire Sacramento County. ?With these low numbers it is obvious the million dollar luxury homes are in a difficult real estate market.

To see the luxury homes for sale around Sacramento and the surrounding neighborhoods just click to view luxury million dollar homes for sale.

For defeating all the monsters in an area a player who does this will gain one thousand experience points. If the kills in an area are split between a number of people then however many monsters they have defeated in one area gets multiplied by two and added to their experience points. So if you defeated 20 goblins in an area and they are worth fifty experience points then you get:

50 x 20 x 2= 2000 Experience Points

If you only defeat five though then when an area is cleared by someone you get:

50 x 5 x 2= 500 Experience Points

LIVERMORE, Calif. -- Researchers from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and a team of American Indian scientists and engineers have partnered to study the possible use of Black Earth technology, or Cpryo, to help mitigate the uptake of radiocesium in locally grown foods in the Marshall Islands.

After WWII, the United States conducted 66 nuclear detonations between 1946 and 1958, on once-pristine inhabited atolls of Bikini and Enewetak in the northern Marshall Islands. The detonations contaminated the islands with radioactive fallout. Long-lived radionuclides such as radiocesium remain at different levels in indigenous terrestrial plants that may be used as food.

To help reduce levels of radiation exposure and support ongoing efforts by Marshall Islanders to resettle their ancestral homelands, the contaminated coral soils need to be remediated as a best practice under the general principles of ALARA -- As Low As Reasonably Achievable.

"Terra Mulata, an ancient indigenous Amazon Black Earth technology, will be investigated at Lawrence Livermore and on the atolls this year," said Dan Hawk, Dan Hawk, a climate change expert, and lead researcher within the American Indian team. "Our team expects carbon, the main ingredient of Terra Mulata, to significantly improve plant productivity as well as water/nutrient retention of coral soils, and potentially help decrease radiocesium uptake in plants."

Together with existing recommendations on remediation of radiocesium uptake into tree-crop products such as coconut, this work may provide an alternative method to using large amounts of chemical fertilizers as opposed to a one-time application of Cpryo, especially for use in home vegetable gardens, said Terry Hamilton, head of LLNL's Marshall Island Program.

"We envision that this work will ultimately support food security and economic development of island communities, and provide added assurances on radiation safety and health," Hawk said. "We hope these efforts will help bring about dietary change to combat rampant indigenous diabetes; as the Marshall Islands has one of the highest rates of diabetes in the world."

Ways To Lower Inheritance Tax With Estate Planning Methods | Free ...

Inheritance income tax can be charged against estate property given to heirs and beneficiaries via a decedent?s last will and testament or trust. Almost all types of inheritance property is assessed federal tax and might be taxed at the state level also. Tax rates are computed on the appraised property valuation at the time of death.

An additional factor that affects inheritance income tax is the connection between beneficiaries and decedents. For instance, surviving spouses do not pay the same tax rate on inherited property as sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, or best friends.

Estate property can be bequeathed to others using a last will and testament, assignment of beneficiaries, or a trust. Property gifted through a last Will are classified as either general or specific.

Only a few states collect inheritance tax. Those that do have various inheritance tax rates. To further obscure the issue, states that do impose taxes have different inheritance laws. As example, some states comply with federal estate tax laws, while others have established laws independent from the federal government. A couple states do not charge state tax unless the estate is required to pay federal taxes.

Due to the variations of each state it is a good idea to consult with a certified public accountant or probate lawyer to understand which tax rates and inheritance laws apply.

The individual that is appointed as the estate executor is in charge of preparing and filing a personal tax return on behalf of the decedent. Income tax returns should include a list of estate property and evaluated values, as well as an itemized list of outstanding debts.

Any time estate taxes are to be paid, the estate executor needs to include payment when the income tax return is filed. If taxes are not remitted on time the estate could be assessed late filing penalties, accumulated interest, and late fees.

Because inheritance law varies by state and is a complicated matter, it is recommended to acquire help from estate planning attorneys to make certain tax returns are filed and taxes paid in accordance with guidelines.

Not only can estate planners and probate attorneys help people establish techniques that can help estate administrators efficiently settle the estate, they can also help arrange methods to reduce inheritance tax or eliminate it altogether.

California probate liquidator and real estate investor, Simon Volkov provides examples about the value of estate planning to minimize complications of inheritance taxes via his personal finance website. He also shares an extensive probate article library that delivers invaluable resources for minimizing estate taxes and ways to prevent probate at SimonVolkov.com.

Debunking the Stereotype that Blacks Don't Surf (or Swim) | The Inertia

Segregated Beach The Inkwell

Of the many obstacles that Black swimming culture still faces, perhaps the most daunting, is the very notion that it does not exist: that a Black person enjoying the water is anomalous. Because, in fact, it has existed all along. Photo: Courtesy 12 Miles North

In the great and varied canon of American racial stereotypes, there is a highly detailed list of segregated sports. Basketball, for instance, is a ?Black? sport. Hockey, on the other hand, is for Whites. Surfing falls firmly into the category of ?white sport,? somewhere between mountaineering and golf. It could be argued that there is no ?whiter? sport in the world that was originally invented by non-whites. There are many ways to illustrate this, but let?s leave it here: It is the only sport since the 1936 summer Olympics in which the 2009 world champion, Mick Fanning, can say something overtly anti-Semitic to a reporter and the outlet that reports the statement will be blamed for bad taste.

Why don?t Black people surf? That can be answered with another race-based generalization. Black people don?t swim. Consider the numbers: A 2010 study by US Swimming, America?s governing body of competitive swimming, found that nearly half of White children (42 percent) had low or no swimming ability. That number was topped by Hispanic American children; 58 percent of whom reported no or low swimming ability. Black children had the highest non-swimming rates at just under than 70 percent. I suspect that the White numbers are slightly inflated based on the fact many that my Caucasian, land-lubbing friends define ?swimming? as walking into a pool up to their waist, getting out, then applying more coconut oil. But that doesn?t change the fact that swimming rates among Black children are abysmal. Infinitely more worrisome is that Black children are around three times more likely to drown than White children, based on another study by US swimming, which is apparently the only organization who studies these sorts of things.

There is one problem with these studies: although the numbers are correct, the conclusion that we causally draw from them is utterly corrupt. The numbers tell us that many Black people don?t swim; Our interpretation, however, is that Black people are not swimmers, which is wrong. The truth is that American Blacks have a long and well-documented history of loving to swim. In order to understand why African American culture does not currently enjoy a well established culture of recreational swimming, we need to delve under the stereotypes and generalizations and look at the history of exclusion that has accompanied their efforts to access the water.

?There were two periods of time in 20th century in which swimming became popularized and democratized in the US,? says Jeff Wiltse, author of the book Contested Waters: A Social History of Swimming Pools in America. ?The first was in the 1920s and 1930s. That?s really when swimming as a recreational activity became popular in US. The vehicles of this popularization were the swimming pools being built in inter-war period. However, it was during that time that blacks were being denied access or relegated to pools that couldn?t accommodate very many people or were generally less desirable.?

Wiltse?s book deals with the complex web of segregation that enveloped Black Americans upon their emancipation form slavery. In this web, the municipal swimming pool became ground zero for Jim Crow. When the first pools opened in cities like Philadelphia in the late 19th century, they were considered to be public baths and located in a low-income neighborhood so that people without access to running water could clean themselves. These pools were segregated by sex but integrated as far as race was concerned. One of the first pools to combine the sexes was the Fairgrounds pool in St. Louis, which opened to great fanfare in 1913. By then, the swimming pool had turned from a public hygiene project into a coveted leisure space, which was quickly becoming an American institution. At 440 feet in diameter, the circular Fairgrounds Pool was the largest in the country by a country mile. It was ringed by an artificial sand beach and had an inclined bottom that mimicked the gradual deepening of the sea floor. The recreation department even considered putting a wave machine in but nixed the idea because it was too expensive. On hot summer days, thousands of people packed into the pool. None of them were Black. This was not for lack of desire on the part of Black residents of St Louis. Instead, the pool was forcibly, and at times violently segregated because city officials didn?t want black men interacting with white women in such an intimate space. Wiltse cites the Fairground pool as ?one point of origin of the mixed-gender, racially segregated leisure society that came to predominate during the twentieth century.? The fear of black men interacting with white women in swimwear kept pools firmly segregated until the mid 1950s.

When some Black people began to resist the race barrier, either through lawsuits filed with the backing of the NAACP or through actually entering a pool and trying to swim, they were often met with a host of legal tricks, violence, or a combination of the two. A common way of segregating a pool was for the city government to lease the pool to a private company to operate. Although the government couldn?t legally segregate, a private company could make whatever rules it wanted.

In smaller towns, they would often promise angry Black communities their own swimming pool for years without delivering. In 1942, Montgomery, West Virginia closed its only municipal swimming pool for four years instead of permitting interracial swimming. When the Fairground Pool was desegregated in 1949, five thousand White people rioted and indiscriminately beat any Black person they could get their hands on near the park where the pool was located.

If you are in the position of operating a large number of corporate vehicles, you might be interested in ways that you can make operating them more efficient. You will be happy to know that there are a number of ways to do so. One of them that you should consider would be the implementation of GPS fleet management. This technology will confer several advantages to anyone in your position.

The first thing that you should consider is fuel economy. Drivers that have a better idea of where they are, and who are given clear directions for their destination are able to save on gas. Not having to wander around randomly, or to choose a route that is less then efficient, means that gas can be saved. Considering that this is an advantage that can be enjoyed by all the drivers, and all the vehicles, it really adds up.

There is more to cutting waste then just fuel costs. Operating times can also benefit a great deal with updated and real time information. If you are having any issues with driver's taking too long, you can do something about that. With the addition of this device, drive times can be trimmed back to what they should be.

Knowing the position of your driver is an advantage for the operation as well as the person driving. When management or dispatch is in a position to know the exact location of each and every driver, they are able to make more effective decisions. Route information becomes easier to facilitate. Time tables can be met with a higher degree of accuracy. When the entire operation has access to so much information, the benefits are many.

Finally there is the safety of your driver, and the security of the vehicle to consider. With so many things that can wrong on the road, it's important to be able to find your driver in the event of an emergency. With this device in place you have up to date information on their location. Should the need arise you should be able to locate them, or summon help to their location in short order.

The safety of the vehicle should be given some thought. Should the vehicle be lost or stolen, you can activate this device with an aim towards locating it's present location. With the cost of operating any number of vehicles being what it is, it just makes good business sense to have some degree of insurance should something happen.

With all of these advantages, there is a lot to be gained by using this service. The only downside is cost. Depending on the number of vehicles, and the size of your budget you may find it a challenge to have this installed in the entire fleet. If that is the case, you still have options. You can shop around until you find a competitive price. Or even have this installed on just a few vehicles to start.

With so many advantages offered when using GPS fleet management, you would do well to look further into this service. When you do so you give yourself a path to making the entire operation more effective. Doing some research on the subject should make it clear what choice you should make.
